I want to know as much as I can about your wedding day. I want to know the names of the people in your party, the important people in the crowd, and the other staff members that will be helping your day come together. The more prepared I am the more likely I am to do a good job.
I have come to realize the challenge in working with a wedding videographer. There are many overlaps in what we are trying to accomplish and can wear on the day. If I do not know they are going to be there it makes it even more difficult. I spend a lot of energy watching them and waiting for them to move to avoid getting them in your shots. There will already be 2 Professional Photographers, adding 2 videographers means 2 more people who are standing when everyone else is sitting, moving when everyone else is still. It is not something to take lightly when you hire both of us.
There is suddenly a competitive nature to the day. We both want to do the best job we can and in some cases this means the other person will no longer be able to do the job they would have done. It is no longer just photojournalistic documentation, it can be blocking, moving and dodging each other to get “the shot”~ quite honestly it is not something I am interested in participating in.
I know that not every videographer is like this. I would love to know of some who are not because I imagine there is value in that video that you only watch one time in your life. Wait, no. Maybe twice.
